Congratulations to captain Adrian Gomes and his hard-working Broughton Scouts team on winning the Edinburgh North East Scout District footie competition at the Jack Kane Centre yesterday afternoon, writes Scott Richards.
After a disappointing 0:0 draw in the first pool game, ‘The Stags’ never looked back, scoring an average of three goals a game en route to the final against the 104th from Goldenacre.
A very early goal in the first minute of the final looked to have settled nerves. and so it remained until two minutes to go when an unfortunate box infringement gifted a penalty to the 104th.
Step forward rock-solid keeper Sam Hynes who had the ball covered all the way as it rebounded off the upright.
The final whistle sounded and the Broughton team punched the air in delight, ending a six-year wait for the 11th’s name to be inscribed on the trophy again.
