Following its emergency meeting with councillors and officials on 6 August (see Breaking news, 8.8.12), the New Town and Broughton Community Council has issued a list summarising areas of agreement.
We list the 14 action points, unedited, below:
- Community Council to be supplied with full information regarding traffic flows: speed and volumes on Northumberland Street, Albany Street.
- Changes to be made to the Broughton Street Junctions – introducing signalling – as quickly as possible. In the interim, additional police monitoring to be requeste.
- Princes Street to be opened to all traffic from South St Andrew Street eastwards as soon as the 'plug' is removed.
- Signage to be installed indicating that the Princes Street route is the preferred route from that point.
- Options to be investigated for additional on street parking and reported to Community Counci.
- Safety concerns to be investigated on all routes and results reported to Community Counci.
- Lothian Buses to be contacted to investigated why buses have been diverted along residential streets off their normal routes and off the agreed diversion.
- Northumberland Street Council Motion to be actioned – with traffic monitorin.
- 20mph notices, roundels, VA signage to be installed on diversion routes.
- Blanket 20mph advisory notices to be investigated across New Town given nature of the network.
- Use of crossing monitors/lollipop men to be investigated.
- Albany Street to be resurfaced following completion of works and removal of diversion.
- Decision regarding operation of Bus Station to be communicated through Community Council.
- Communication Strategy to focus on responsive dialogue – information in advance through traditional means – letters, leaflets.
