Students from Drummond Community High School have come in as runners-up at the prestigious National Youth Worker of the Year Awards.
The six senior pupils have been involved in the school's S6 Intergenerational Community Project, which fundraises for, manages and delivers activities for residents at the Porthaven Older Persons' Care Home in Leith.
Three of the successful S6 students – Haadyia Arshad, Connor Reed and Maryam Hussain* – attended an Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow last night, having come second in the Youth Worker of the Year (Intergenerational Work) category.
Congratulations and certificates were presented by Aileen Campbell, MSP (Minister for Children and Young People, pictured far right) and Grant Stott (the face of Lothian Buses' back ends, left).
This was the sixth year of the scheme, which is run by YouthLink Scotland: the national agency for youth work. The awards celebrate and recognise outstanding service and performance by managers, youth workers and peer educators in the youth work field
Nominees in Drummond's category had to demonstrate use of 'creative and innovative approaches to bring young people and other generations together to share their skills/experience and work to improve community cohesion in the area in which they live'.
We applaud them.
* The other award-winning Drummond students were Saloni Yvas, Hollie Higgins and Mark Buckingham.
