We thank all those readers who have contacted us this afternoon to enquire whether the Edinburgh Evening News has thanked us in private for what they failed to acknowledge in public: that their front-page and main stories today derive in large part from yesterday's online coverage in the Spurtle. They have not.
Our article appeared under the headline 'Massive Olympic logos plan for Castle'. You can read it here. The Edinburgh Evening News's headline had a familiar ring when it appeared this afternoon: 'Fury over massive Olympic sign plan for Castle'. Presumably the subeditor there felt that readers would be excited by fury but would not understand logos.
We are no longer surprised by such discourteous opportunism. Evening News journalism increasingly reminds us of an old lady breaking wind at the dinner table: slightly embarrassing, a little laughable, briefly repellant.
