A new Friends of Pilrig Park group will work with the Council to draft an improvement plan for this popular but run-down local resource.
At last night's Leith Central Community Council meeting, officials listed some of the park's problems identified already.
These include: a stinking, muddy lochan (a drainage issue but not caused by leaking sewage); slippery entrances; too few bins (especially in the summer); use of the buddleia bush near Pilrig House as a toilet; sundry unpleasant surprises (rubbish, mattresses, needles, poos) in the Milennium Forest area; and poor maintenance.
The headteacher of Bonnington’s Gaelic Parkside Primary School (due to open in August) and a new local environment officer have both signalled their willingness to get involved in improving the area.
