LOCAL RESIDENT ON TREK FOR CRISIS
My name is Jamie Forbes and I live on East London Street.
I work for Lloyds Banking Group and I am raising funds for our charity partner – Crisis. Crisis are the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. They help people directly out of homelessness and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.
To help raise funds, I am one of 40 UK-based colleagues taking part in a 60 km trek through Iceland in September. I have set an ambitious fundraising target of £4,000 which I originally hoped to raise by the end of the year.
As it stands today, I’ve already raised £4,500 through donations from friends and family, and fundraising in the workplace. I have a race-night and raffle planned for Friday 4 August at The Buccleuch in Dalkeith, which should raise over £1,500 more.
Money raised will support Crisis to develop and launch a brand-new not-for-profit lettings agency for those on low incomes, making renting easier and more affordable for people who would otherwise be homeless.
Icelandic Lava Trek – 7–9 September
The trek will last three days, walking around 7–10 hours per day. At the end of each day, I will be assembling my own tent and dismantling it in the morning. I'll cover around 60 km, taking on peaks of up to 3,600ft. I will also be battling the elements in the highlands of Iceland, as I may experience rain, sunshine, and snow.
The route is below:
- Thursday 7 September 2023: Landmannalaugar to Álftavatn (approx. 10–11 hours)
- Friday 8 September: Álftvatn to Emstrur (approx. 7–8 hours)
- Saturday 9 September: Emstrur and Thorsmörk, then Rekjavik (approx. 6–7 hours)
Support
Thanks to the Dragonfly, Artisan Roast, and Fika Studios (all on Broughton Street), who have donated and supported my fundraising efforts. If any other local residents or businesses would like to support, then they can do so until the end of this year via my JustGiving page.
