Easter may still be two weeks away, but guerilla gardener and installation artist Christina ‘Granny’ Thompson has never been one to let calendrical niceties get between her and a good time.
The floral treasure trove she tends at the sunniest end of Bellevue Place is full of colour again this spring.
To the delight of children and puzzlement of passing teenagers, it's also filled with a sozzled-looking Humpty Dumpty …
and far from sheepish-looking Little Bo Peep …
and – a first in Nature – eggs in an egg.
The scene is also animated by battery-operated butterflies, which flutter on barely visible springs in mid-air.
One of these (top-right) has a particular, poignant significance. A note explains:
CAROLINE’S BUTTERFLY
This beautiful Peacock butterfly is dedicated to a wonderful young lady who loved wildlife, gardening and animals and died too soon.
She had the most beautiful blue eyes just like the colour on this butterfly.
When you pass by think on Caroline and her lovely Mum Cynthia and be happy and kind to all living creatures.
Thank you
Granny Thomson
