Another Minimalism at The Fruitmarket Gallery on Market Street has been beautifully curated, and it’s wonderful to see such care and attention given to each piece, writes Rhys Fullerton.
The works on display are made as we look and experience them, and can change due to various conditions such as light and time.
My favourite is ‘Shadows (After Atget)’ by Spencer Finch. Finch’s multi-coloured fluorescent light tubes are minimalist, and bring light and colour to the room.
There’s also a chance to enjoy Tacita Dean’s 16mm ‘Disappearance at Sea’. The sound of the film whirling through the projector is wonderful to hear, and the film itself is deep and mesmerising and really adds to the experience of the exhibition.
I thoroughly enjoyed this exhibition and it is well worth taking a step out of Broughton’s comfort zone to see.
Another Minimalism: Art After California Light and Space continues until 21 February at The Fruitmarket Gallery (45 Market Street). Admission free.
