Broughton's beloved Loch Eyre could soon be consigned to memory as work on the New Town Quarter inches closer to starting.
Developer Ediston's Ross McNulty tells us: ''We are in advanced negotiations with contractors to build the private for sale residential blocks opposite Royal Crescent and Fettes Row.
'It is anticipated we will be in a position to confirm the contractor in May this year with a view to starting on site in the summer. We recognise it has been a long wait, and look forward to seeing real site activity taking place soon.
'Similarly, we are looking ahead towards the delivery of the affordable housing block and intend to commence starting the build later in the year, subject to entering into a contract with an owner/operator, which is going well.
'Our planning submission for change of use on other parts of the site is now on the portal with the formal consultation commencing next month.'
In related news, Spurtle is aware of Council planners requiring further information on aspects of the proposed development: Townscape & Visual Impact, and Cultural Heritage.
To address these concerns, consultants SLR Consulting Ltd will submit details in an additional Environmental Impact Report. See the Planning Portall here.
