Work by four young artists will show at the Gallery on the Corner next month in what promises to be an exhilarating and colourful exhibition of new talent.
Rachel Anderson, Lauren Bremner, Alistair Mather and Nat Turner will all be leaving high school this year, and are among those who have been selected for the Artlink Central Creative Leavers Programme in collaboration with Stirling Council. The results of that programme will be on display here.
The project targeted young people with additional support needs who had shown a particular aptitude for arts or crafts at school. They were then individually matched by Artlink Central with professional artists who encouraged their creativity and honed their skills towards future applications such as work or college.
Director of Artlink Central, Kevin Harrison, told Spurtle: ‘Creative Leavers’ makes a big impact on young emerging artists and their families, just at a time when they can drop off the radar as they leave supportive school environments.
'Some of our talented young adults have gone on to get further exhibition and even commission opportunities; or to join other local adult learning opportunities through our Artreach programme or through local college art courses.’
The works which we have seen in preview are astonishing: bold, colourful, highly attractive and very keenly priced. The artists work in various media, from acrylic to collage, silver leaf and ink, charcoal, photography and photomontage.
Particular favourites of this correspondent were Lauren Bremner's gorgeous 'Woodland Glow' (ink and acrylic on canvas) and Alistair Mather's richly textured 'Blue Door, Flaky Paint, Rusty Door' (below).
The exhibition runs from 1–26 May at the Gallery on the Corner (34 Northumberland Street) and all works are for sale.
