If you’re looking for an inspiring afternoon out in Edinburgh on 25 June, why not join the hosts of the open gardens of Stockbridge (and surrounds) and have a bogle at their plots full of plants?
Under the Scotland’s Gardens Scheme umbrella, from 12 noon until 4.30 pm, a trail of eight private city gardens will tempt visitors to explore the New Town, Stockbridge and Canonmills area, where the owners will be on hand to answer questions and receive compliments!
The trail stretches from 14 Logie Green Gardens to Royal Circus South via Cumberland Street, Fettes Row, Henderson Row, Saxe Coburg Place, St Bernards Row, Deanhaugh Street, NW Circus Place to Royal Circus South. Or the reverse of that for visitors starting at Royal Circus. Tickets will be available at Logie Green Gardens and Royal Circus South.
Each garden is very different, and the price for the trail is £8, which goes primarily to Shelter Scotland and Médecins Sans Frontières, with contributions also to other health and gardening charities.
Helen and Ian Pope opened their garden in Canonmills for the first time 2 years ago, during a lull in the pandemic (social distancing was observed at all times). Helen says, ‘The best thing about the day is meeting visitors and comparing notes – we learn something new from each other. We’re looking forward to opening the garden gate again this year and inviting them all in.’
