SNOG IN THE PARK – PART 2

Submitted by Editor on

One week to go till T in the Park, and the excitement is building, writes Whisky Kisser Iain MacPhail.

Regular Spurtle readers will be aware that Whisky Kiss recently toured New York (meeting amongst others Donald 'The Donald' Trump, Keifer 'the Leither' Sutherland, and Paolo 'The Weegiefarian' Nutini).

On our Tartan Week Tour of the Big Apple we also first met world-champion Highland Dancers Assemble and Leap (pictured right). We quickly worked up a show with them, and it was a red-hot runaway success during Tartan Week in the city that never sleeps.

We are delighted to be taking the show to T in the Park now. We've called it 'Twisted Tartan'. It features the world-champ girls, and the Scottish champion breakdancers (or Bboys), with Whisky Kiss providing the soundtrack.

The show starts with the Bboys doing a wee bit of dancing, throwing balletic shapes and spinning on their heads. It’s an incredible spectacle. We then bring on the girls to do a spot of dancing, before the whole thing really kicks off ... when we hold a smokin' girls v boys dance-off.

The Bboys are pretty cool guys themselves (as you may imagine) with names like Dr Beat and Sideshow Maule. While we haven’t asked to see birth certificates or passports yet, there is a suspicion amongst the rest of us that those might not be their given Sunday names. As we are playing on the Sunday, we may yet find out. As ever, Broughton, you will be the first to know!

The band are champing at the bit to unleash some of our new sets at the Festival too.

[img_assist|nid=1889|title=|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=200|height=200]We've been working on our debut CD all this year (it too is called 'Twisted Tartan' – preview copies are available from our good pals at Vino Wines on Broughton Street).

However, the creative process takes a long time, and it’s a bit of a weird limbo period for us at present: we’ve been in the studio, we’ve recorded the tracks with our band and DJ, and we’re really happy with them … but because we use samples from major acts like Blondie, Michael Jackson, Madonna & the Ojays etc., we're just waiting on the final details to be agreed before we can actually release it and let the wider public hear it!

I am reminded of a quote from the outstanding American president Lyndon B. Johnson. To paraphrase LBJ, making a CD of ground-breaking music 'is a lot like pissing down your own leg. It feels to hot to you, right now, but not to anyone else'. Not yet LBJ, not yet, but give us two months …

More updates next week – Whisky Kiss play T in the Park at 5pm on 10 July. You can keep up with the band on Facebook.
