TIMELY WORK FROM A TIMELESS WORLD

Submitted by Editor on

Will McEvoy is a talented artist whose work is currently showing at the My 24/7 exhibition in the Gallery on the Corner as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival.

Spurtle really liked his quirky clock, behind whose transparent case one finds mirrored images of complicated workings and a rabbit (see close-up below).

The reason becomes clear in McEvoy's fascinating explanation:

'It may seem obvious to make clocks for an exhibition entitled My 24/7, but for me time plays a large part in my life. Mainly because I have no concept of time.

'Usually I don’t know what day or month it is, and can only really plan a day or so ahead. I liken myself to the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland: always late, running around frantically, chasing time in a chaotic world I have no control over.

'Originally, this clock piece was a broken clock to show this struggle. Now the clock is fixed and set in front of a mirror to reflect the inner workings of a broken clock that’s trying to work, or a rabbit trying to grasp onto time.'

The Gallery on the Corner is at 34 Northumberland Street. Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival continues until 26 October.
