What do you make of Artisan Roast’s latest A-board on Broughton Street?
Spurtle has been taking soundings, and most of those women we’ve consulted find nothing amiss. They interpret the drawing as either: (a) much love requiring much coffee afterwards; or (b) great coffee coming from lovingly selected and ground beans.
Men, on the other hand, profess themselves either: (c) unable to find any logical connection between love and coffee; and/or (d) disturbed by a subliminal threat to something they hold particuarly dear.
Reader Richard Gourlay Donaldson goes even further. He likens the design to an animated health education film he remembers being shown as a Royal Naval rating prior to going on shore leave in the early-1950s.
Unusually, no-one has complained to Spurtle about the missing apostrophe.
