Locally based Waverley Care is to benefit from a fundraising concert later this month.
The Edinburgh Charity Orchestra will perform Malcolm Arnold's Tam O'Shanter, Carl Neilsen's Clarinet Concerto and excerpts from Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet on 19 February at St Cuthbert's Church, Lothian Road.
Waverley Care's director Grant Sugden has welcomed the initiative both as a fundraiser and as a means of publicising the charity's help and support for those living with HIV or Hepatitis C.
'Much of our fundraising has been in the area of choral music and we hope that, through this concert, a wider audience of music lovers will become aware of both our work and of our own musical activities.'
[img_assist|nid=2672|title=|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=166|height=200]At the performance on 19 February, the clarinet soloist will be Calum Robertson, a postgraduate student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Under the baton of Iain McLarty (right), he will be supported by an invited orchestra established in 2011 to give concert experience to Edinburgh's best amateur and student musicians in the company of professionals. The group's inaugural performance last year raised £700 for another Broughton-based charity, The Yard.
Tickets for the event cost £10 (£7 concession) and will be available at the door. Alternatively, there is an advance booking discount at: http://xtspro.com/-/romeo-and-juliet/
