Still marvelling at personalised number plate spotted in city centre. Size of some of these SUVs nowadays …
City of Edinburgh Council seeks Sustrans Places for Everyone (PfE) funding to improve the junction of Broughton Road, McDonald Road, St Mark’s Path, and the entry to the forthcoming Powderhall development for all users.
Dear Spurtle,
I was most surprised to read an article about Broughton St Mary's Parish Church in Issue 321 of the Spurtle under the "Briefly" column (p.2).
I wish to put the record straight. The Kirk Session of Broughton St Mary's was unaware that Galliford Try Telecoms had submitted a proposal to mount telecoms equipment to the outside of the steeple.
No such proposal was received by us. If it had been, it is my personal view that an objection would have been made against it.
It would appear that there has been a failure in the planning process with regard to communication with interested parties.
Thank you to the Spurtle for drawing it to my attention.

(Session Clerk, Broughton St Mary's Parish Church)
On 16 August, local stakeholders met Council-appointed agents to discuss the future design of the Picardy Place island. In Issue 321, we published a measured account of those proceedings by Peter Williamson, who attended as Chair of the Picardy Place Residents Association.
That end of Festival feeling.
As you read this, advance copies of the September Spurtle are already spreading across Broughton like pizza fragments round a bin full of rats.
Page 1 begins with a temporary fix, an entirely predictable and predicted fiasco, and a ‘feature façade’. It’s all infuriating. Thank God for the clock and the flock.
Fake flowers feature on Page 2, as do too much of a good thing, too little of a good thing, and a dog’s breakfast.
Looking forward to a more fragrant start to September. Waste services resume tomorrow. Schedule, advice, and fond hopes here: https://edinburgh.gov.uk/binstrike
