The Stafford Centre, on Broughton Street, is looking for two new volunteers in its work with people living in the Edinburgh area who experience mental-health difficulties.
Managed by Support in Mind Scotland, the aim of this local resource is to help people manage their mental health, gain greater self-confidence and become more integrated within the community.
There are two roles needing filled.
Walking Group Volunteer
The first will suit someone with good people skills who likes sharing walks with others. This role involves supporting the walking group alongside a staff member. There are two walking groups. One focuses on gentle and scenic walks within the Edinburgh area, often starting at the Stafford Centre. The other covers 3 or 4 miles with a longer walk of up to 7 miles on occasion. The Volunteering would take place on Tuesdays, roughly between 10.30 am and 1 pm.
Photography Volunteer
The new photography volunteer will help capture and edit images and teach others how to use photography equipment. They’ll have strong photography skills, a good knowledge of camera equipment, and confidence to use Adobe photoshop and editing software. They’ll also need to enjoy supporting people and have good interpersonal and communication skills. The photography group will take place on a weekday morning or afternoon. The volunteer will be supported in this by a member of staff. Photography support at occasional weekend and evening events would also be appreciated.
Volunteers complete an application and induction process which includes a PVG police check and reference checks.
